BREAST SELF EXAM

Perform your breast exam a week to 10 days after your period.
If you no longer have a period, choose a day of the month to do the exam and use the same day each month.

Early detection is your best protection against breast cancer. Not all lumps are cancer, so don't sweat it. Take your time and make this exam a priority consistently every month.

While Showering

Put one hand behind head. With the finger pads of your middle Three fingers, move hand over entire breast area. Use the method recommended by your healthcare professional.
Use right hand for the left breast, left hand for right.
Then examine each underarm with are only slightly raised.
Check for lumps, knots, or thickening.

To exam the right breast, place right hand behind hear. Follow the same technique as in the shower, using left hand to exam right breast. Then put left hand behind head, and repeat steps with the right hand for the left breast.

Stand Before a Mirror

With hands firmly pressing down on the hips, check for changes in the shape, size, or skin texture of your breasts. Also check nipples for changes, including any unusual discharge.
